How to Brew V60 Pour-Over Coffee at Home or at Work

The V60 pour-over is one of the most rewarding ways to brew specialty coffee. With a little practice, you can unlock the full flavour potential of a great single-origin bean — bright acidity, floral aromatics, and a clean, lingering finish. At Taylorblend we try not to complicate things too much and recommend a 3 pour recipe or 5 pour recipe. The 5 pour recipe, we recommend for all Natural, Washed or Honey processed Coffees. The 3 pour recipe, we recommend for any style of fermented beans. This is completely up to you tho, it’s just a simple guide. Your personal tastes and preferences on flavours and brewing techniques may differ from ours, and that’s 100% ok. Coffee is like art, everyone likes different styles and preferences.

What You'll Need

  • A V60 style dripper or UFO
  • Paper filters( size 01 or 02) UFO
  • Lightly roasted coffee — we recommend our World Filter Roasts
  • Burr or Flat grinder
  • Gooseneck kettle (with temp control is a bonus)
  • Any style kitchen scales
  • Timer
  • Server/Mug or Geisha Murderer Cup

Dose: 16 coffee to 240ml water (1:15 ratio)
Grind: Medium-fine (like coarse table salt)
Water temperature: 90–96°C (we recommend hotter if your beans are lighter.
Total brew time: 3:30 minutes

The 5 pour Recipe for Natural, Washed or Honey processed Coffees.

Rinse the filter. Place your paper filter in the V60 style apparatus and rinse with hot water. This removes any papery taste and pre-heats your dripper and server. Discard the rinse water.

Add your coffee. Grind 16g of coffee to a medium-fine consistency and add it to the filter. Give the dripper a gentle shake to level the bed.

  1. Bloom (0:00–0:30). Start your timer and pour 38ml of water evenly over the grounds. You'll see the coffee swell and bubble — this is CO₂ releasing, a sign of freshness.
  2. Second pour: At 30sec: Pour slowly in a circular motion up to about 96ml total. Keep the pour gentle and even.
  3. Third pour: At 1min 30sec: Continue pouring in circles, bringing the total water to 144ml. Avoid pouring directly down the sides of the filter.
  4. Fourth pour: At 2min 15sec: Continue pouring in circles, bringing the total water to 192ml.

  5. Fifth and final pour: At 3min: Continue pouring in circles, bringing the total water to 240ml. Let it drain completely (total time around 3min 30sec

Troubleshooting

  • Too sour/weak? Grind finer or slow your pour.
  • Too bitter/harsh? Grind coarser or use slightly cooler water.
  • Brew taking too long? Grind coarser — the filter may be clogging.
  • Brew too fast? Grind finer and pour more slowly.

The V60 amd UFO rewards patience and consistency. Once you dial it in with a coffee you love, it becomes a genuinely meditative morning ritual.
